The "musical road" in January: Ex-musician Do Nhuan "Viet Nam is my homeland"
Perhaps among timeless love songs about the homeland, "Vietnam is my homeland" is one of the best tunes and has one of the deepest emotions. With a huge wealth of music, what ex-musician Do Nhuan left to Vietnamese music is not just a "Vietnam is my homeland" but it also is a name beautiful enough to touch the hearts of many music lover generations. Program "Musical road" in January, 2011 held by Eurowindow and Melinh PLAZA in collaboration with the Entertainment Board of Vietnam Television will introduce to the audience nationwide the life and career of the ex-musician Do Nhuan. Artists participated in the program: People's Artist Tran Hieu, People's Artist Quang Tho, Elite Artist Viet Hoan, Elite Artist Hong Ky, Thanh Thuy, Dang Duong, Trong Tan, Anh Tho, Quoc Hung, Lan Anh, Phuong Nga, Hong Vi, Thanh Le, Thu Lan.

Musician of hometown

Musician Do Nhuan was born in 1922 in the land of ancient folk song and grew up from cheerful folk singing nights. From age 14 he had already studied traditional music and known how to play traditional instruments such as the flute, moon lute, monochord... During school years in Haiphong, he attended in the Scouts, and in the meetings he used to sing French and European songs. Then atmosphere of musical reforms affected Do Nhuan, he learned guitar, banjo, violin and notation method. On the impact and absorb the French and European music, particularly for musicians of patriotism, it will be a shortage if we do not mention the French revolutionary songs like Macxaye and Internationale.

Unlike most musicians who tend to be romantic, Do Nhuan, like Luu Huu Phuoc, was inspired by his native country. In 1939, he wrote the first song at the age of 17: Trung Vuong, to celebrate anniversary day of Hai Ba Trung in Hai Duong. In the years 1940-1941, Do Nhuan put all his effort in finishing the singing Nguyen Trai - Phi Khanh (including the 3 songs: Coal Birds, Word of the father, Way to the North). Because of these songs and some patriotic activities in Hai Phong and other places, Do Nhuan was captured by the French and exiled in  Son La in 1943. However, that prison even enhanced Do Nhuan's attachment to the revolution. It took only one year in prison for a series of songs to be born: Afternoon in prison, Con Dao, Son La Hatred,  The call of the prisoners (lyrics by Dao Duy Tu),visiting the tomb of fallen ones . Out of jail, the inspiration of mountains, revolutionary war zone and revolutionary time helped Do Nhuan complete the burning revolutionary tracks towards general August Rebellion:

Guerrilla Song (1944), Missing War Zone(1945). After the August Rebellion, the French started their aggression in South Viet Nam, Do Nhuan immediately composed Southern Gun Sound, Enlistment Song and Musical Caravans

In the war against the French, Do Nhuan wrote many impressive songs, urging the whole nation to firmly step forward in the revolution. Besides one lyrical and loving "Winter Coat", there is one formal "Praise President Ho Chi Minh" (1951); besides one honest and rustic " Strong waves do not loosen the rowing arms", there is one heroic Thao River Guerrilla (1949). Especially the historic epic sounds of Dien Bien Phu: Long-distanced Operation (1953), On Him Lam Hill(1954), The victory of Dien Bien (1954).

Outstanding student of world music

Do Nhuan is the only musician in the first generation of new musical trained at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. And he is also the one who laid the foundation for the musical in the Western tradition way. His first experience which emerged from 1950s is the short theater: The whole family emulate,Strong waves do not loosen rowing arms, Păn return to village, Stone. In the 1970s and 1980s Do Nhuan wrote the musical: The “Teu” ( Vietnamese traditional wooden clown), Who is the better one, Before the wedding, Cantaloupe ...

He is the first Vietnamese musician writing opera with Ms. Sao (1965), then The statue maker (1971). In addition, he also composed instrumental pieces such as Highland dances for violin and orchestra ... But his name is still attached to the songs: Vietnam is my homeland, I love sports (a fun song, all words starting with the letter T), I am a painting mechanist, Four spring road ... Especially the song "The victory of Dien Bien" is considered to be a unique phenomenon in the music of Vietnam, when the song includes both enduring strength and broad spectrum: only after its birth for a few hours, the song was performed at the celebration of the victory of Dien Bien and after more than a half of century, this music still echoes forever the heroic tone of a glorious global victory.

His work in the 1960s and 1970s: I am a painting mechanist, I love sports,Vietnam is my homeland, Four spring road, The winner is he (co-wrote with Phere-V.Fere ), Enemy to hit, Joy of paving the way, The drum sound of enlistment, Watching the tree reminds me of him (remixed from a Vietnamese traditional melody ), Song of the revolution ... Music of Do Nhuan is rich in nationality , various in material, simple and casual in lyrics, rustic romantic, loving, witty. Do Nhuan has been received many grand medals, especially Ho Chi Minh Award in 1996.

The "musical road in January," took place at 20h00 P.M on 16th January 2011 at the Viet Xo Friendship Culture Palace with the songs which are familiar to the music loving audiences as: Winter coat, Missing war zone, Guerrillas Song, On Him Lam Hill, Long-distanced operation, The victory of Dien Bien, Praise President Ho Chi Minh, Watching the trees reminds me of him, Thao River guerrillas, Vietnam is my homeland.
